Robotype 4: A Handy Tool for Typing Reusable Text
Do you find yourself typing the same phrases and paragraphs over and over? Perhaps you prepare business documents that contain paragraphs worded in a standard way. Or maybe you're a technical support provider and repeatedly receive the same questions in email. Or maybe there are certain long and complicated URLs that you find yourself needing to give out all the time. Some programs have macro expansion facilities, but not all. You could save your reusable text in a document and cut and paste from there, but that approach is clumsy. A better solution is Robotype 4, which adds a text expansion feature to almost any Windows program.
Robotype 4 is an updated version of Robotype 3, which was written by Gregory A. Wolking and first appeared in PC Magazine September 3, 2002 (v21n15). Robotype 4 has several enhancements over its predecessor, such as a new "groups" feature that lets you organize your abbreviations by category, a new "tag" feature that lets you use variables such as date and time when defining the expanded text, and a new "clipboard" feature that lets you insert the contents of the clipboard into your expanded text.
With Robotype 4, you can define abbreviations for the words, phrases, and paragraphs that you frequently retype and Robotype 4 does the rest, replacing your abbreviations with the expanded text. For example, you can define "tyvm" as "Thank you very much" and whenever you type "tyvm" followed by a space or punctuation mark, Robotype 4 will replace it with "Thank you very much". You can also use special characters such as , , , , , and in your expanded text to simulate keystrokes.
Robotype 4 works with almost any Windows program that accepts text input, such as word processors, email clients, web browsers, chat programs, etc. You can also customize Robotype 4 to work with specific programs or windows by using filters. Filters let you specify which programs or windows Robotype 4 should monitor for abbreviations and which ones it should ignore.
If you want to save time and effort by typing reusable text faster and easier, you should give Robotype 4 a try. You can download it from [^1^] or [^2^] for free. Robotype 4 is compatible with Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10.To install Robotype 4, you need to run the setup program and follow the instructions on the screen. The setup program will create a shortcut to Robotype 4 in your Start menu and an icon in your system tray. You can access Robotype 4's main window by double-clicking the icon or right-clicking it and selecting "Show".
Once Robotype 4 is running, you can start creating your abbreviations. To do so, click the "New" button in the main window and enter the abbreviation and the expanded text in the corresponding fields. You can also assign a group, a description, and a hotkey to your abbreviation. A hotkey is a keyboard shortcut that you can use to trigger the expansion without typing the abbreviation. For example, you can assign Ctrl+Alt+T to an abbreviation that expands to "Today's date is ."
You can edit or delete your abbreviations by selecting them in the main window and clicking the "Edit" or "Delete" buttons. You can also use the "Import" and "Export" buttons to save and load your abbreviations from a file. This way, you can backup your abbreviations or share them with others. aa16f39245
